On Oct 18th ,2012, The fourth session of the 1st Academic Committee of Key Laboratory for Polymer Synthesis and Functional Construction of the Education Ministry was held at Jiaolutianzhuang Hotel in Hangzhou. Members attending the meeting were as follows: Prof. Ming Jiang, academician of the CAS and director of the Academic Committee, Prof. Zhikang Xu, dean of the DPSE and vice director of the Academic Committee, Prof. Zhen Tong from South China University of Technology, Prof. Wantai Yang from Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Prof. Bai Yang from Jilin University, Prof. Mingqiu Zhang from Sun Yat-sen University, Prof. Xiqun Jiang from Nanjing University, Prof. Qiang Fu from Sichuan University, Prof. Xinhua Wan from Beijing University, Prof. Lijia An from Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry of the CAS, Prof. Zhiqiang Fan and Prof. Hongzheng Cheng from ZJU.
Other leaders and guests presented were Mr. Jiaquan Shen, a member of CAS, Mr. Mang Wang, Prof. Qiang Zhen, president of Guizhou University and director of the Key Laboratory for Polymer Synthesis and Functional Construction of the Education Ministry, Mrs. Xia Wenli, vice-president of the Scientific Research Institute of ZJU, Prof. Qi Wang, vice-dean of the DPSE and other elites from different research institutions.
The meeting mainly consisted of two parts: the first part was the work summary and research results reports. The second part included discussions, suggestions and conclusions based on those reports.
The first part was chaired by Prof. Zhikang Xu. It began with a review given by Prof. Qiang Zheng about last year’s major achievements of the laboratory, implementation of the suggestions proposed in the last conference, direction of future development and the existing problems. Then, aiming at the coming of the first round laboratory evaluation, Mrs. Wenli Xia put forward some suggestions, among which was the optimization of the major achievements’ promotion. Moreover, she promised to try her best to win more support from school to solve the fund shortage in the laboratory. Six academic backbones, Chao Gao, Hanying Li, Anjun Qin, Quanfu An, Yihu Song, Changyou Gao, reported their research results and each got questions and instructions from committee members.
In the ensuing session, Prof. Ming Jiang presided over the discussions about the work report and future development of the Key Laboratories. Given that the labs had made great progress in academic achievements, talent introduction, as well as team construction, it was widely agreed that developing them into State Key Laboratories should always be in priority. At last, members of the committee offered some constructive proposals on laboratory construction in view of higher construction requirements, long-term development and the coming lab evaluation.
The success of this academic committee session impelled the construction of Key Laboratories for Polymer Synthesis and Functional Construction of the Education Ministry and the development of the related disciplines. More achievements are expected in the next session.
