Security against Fire is of the Utmost Importance - the Fire Drill for the Juniors

In the afternoon of Sep. 5th, 87 juniors in DPSE assembled in the parking lot lying to the west of the Polymer Building, engaging a fire drill as the last lesson of Lab Security during the short term.

After theory study, a training of using fire extinguisher was organized by Prof. Anjun Qin in order to ensure the experimental security of the juniors and to improve their ability to put out a fire in the initial stage.Gaohe Wang, the director in DPSE office, admonished the juniors the importance of security and conveyed emphasis by other leaders in DPSE on security issue before the fire drill.

A guard lighted a fire over an oil can subsequently. Xingfa Wang, in the Security Department of Zhejiang University, showed the correct method of using an extinguisher and emphasized on the details that students should pay attention to, for instance, one should stand two to five meters far from the flames and aim the extinguisher nozzle at the bottom of the fire when spraying fire-extinguishing agent. Every student tried to use the extinguisher to put out the fire burning over the oil can after the explanation.

The training is very meaningful for the juniors. All the students grasped the correct way to put out a fire, and the awareness of safety in lab has been raised through this fire drill.
