Time£º2014-06-18 06:06

On June 13 evening, Prof. Zhikang Xu, dean of DPSE, gave a lecture on the theme “the Past Tense, Present Tense and Future Tense of DPSE of Zhejiang University” to introduce DPSE and its frontier researches to undergraduate students, aiming at enhancing their interests in polymer science. Presented at the lecture were Mr. Rengong Lou, director of DPSE, associate professors Jun Ling and Zhengke Wang, teachers in charge of two freshmen classes respectively, Gaohe Wang, the students’ supervisor in DPSE office, and Lei Xia, the students’ counselor.

Shortly after hostess Yu Jin gave a start speech and introduced the present guests, Prof. Xu talked about his stories with polymer and DPSE. He used past tense, present tense and future tense as clues of his lecture and clearly showed the general visage of DPSE. Talking about the past of DPSE, Prof. Xu highly appreciated the contributions of some senior teachers such as Prof. Shilin Yang and Prof. Qiang Zheng. He also highlighted the research of CAE academician Zhiquan Shen, praising her profound influence on the development of rubber industry in China.

As for current conditions of DPSE, Prof. Xu exhibited some recent achievements and confirmed the progresses DPSE has made in these years. He ended up the “present tense” section by saying that “talent is of top significance when education concepts are set”.

In the “future tense” part, Prof. Xu put forward his educational perspective of connotative development and quality improvement. With the hope of building DPSE into first level discipline of  chemistry state key discipline and possessing a state key laboratory, he called for all students and faculty to endeavor for the future of DPSE.

Prof. Xu’s interesting and inspiring lecture gained warm applauses. During the subsequent Q&A section, he answered questions raised by active audience in detail and solved the puzzles in students’ mind. After that, Mr. Lou delivered a brief speech presenting insight into basic principles of what to do and how to learn, from which students learned a lot.

At last, undergraduate students from class of 2013 had their first class meetings with their teachers in charge respectively. This 2-hour lecture was the first step for those freshmen students to become members of DPSE. Wish sincerely that they all have brilliant futures.
