The Student Union of Polymer Science and Engineering held a fair at Lantian to the freshmen on April 3rd afternoon so that they can get a better understanding of the major, polymer science and engneering. We take this event to good use to stimulate their interests towards our faculty,, inform them of the frontier of this subject, and clear their puzzle about this major.
We designed various activities for the freshmen to get involved easily, including quick Q&A, academic poster watching, accomplishment exhibiting, and major consulting. Quick Q&A was similar to the “Lisheng Cup” Chemistry Competition, but more content concerning polymer science was involved. Anyone got the right answers would be awarded. Besides, the final award was a notebook signed in person by the Professor Qiang Zheng, which attracted a lot of attention. And after several rounds of games, a freshman got it.
Poster is a common way for people to communicate in many formal international academic conferences, serving as a good approach to exhibit their accomplishment, especially for universities and research institutions. Our posters were selected from “Graduate Academic Poster exhibition”, showing freshmen a fabulous, curious, and innovative world of polymer. Among them, the lightest material in the world,all-carbon aerogel, invented by Prof. Chao Gao amazed everyone present. Besides, many senior students from Yuquan Campus answered freshmen’s questions very patiently, and talked about their own experiences in our faculty. Their suggestions valued much for the freshmen.
This event inspired many new students to create a career in polymer science and engineering. We hope we will together build a brighter future in our faculty..
