On the afternoon of September 17th, 2013, six people, including Chun Yu, vice president of National Defense Science and Technology Academy (NDSTA) of Zhejiang University (ZJU), Yaoshun Du, minister of the High-tech Department of Science and Technology Academy (STA) of ZJU, Guoxiong Wang, vice-minister of High-tech Department of STA of ZJU, Shixi Yang, minister of the Major Projects Department of STA, came to the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering (DPSE). They investigated the research foundation, research achievements, development plan and direction in relevant advanced material fields, soliciting opinions and taking advices from the professors in DPSE about the work of departments in STA.
The meeting started with a general introduction of DPSE by Prof. Youchang Gao, vice dean of DPSE. Prof. Zhiqiang Fan, director of Institute of Polymer Science, Prof. Hongzheng Chen, director of Institute of Polymer Composites, and Prof. Jingzhi Sun, deputy director of Institute of Biomedical Macromolecules, all gave a brief account of the research and personnel situation of their correspondent institutes respectively. Meanwhile, Prof. Qiaoling Hu, Prof. Lie Ma, Prof. Yihu Song, Associate Professor Xiaojun Huang, and Associate Professor Quanfu An et al. reported to the investigation panel on the highlights of their research achievements.
The achievements in applied technology gained by DPSE, including the ultra smooth surface coating technology, membrane filtration and separation technology, high performance rubber applied technology, as well as artificial skin and cartilage repair technology, won great surprise and appreciation of the investigation panel. Moreover, the prospects of those achievements' potential applications in the fields of advanced technology and national defense technology were communicated and discussed. This investigation fully displayed strong research capabilities of DPSE, promoting the further development of research work in our department.
