Let¡¯s Pray Blessing for the Quake Victims!

Time£º2013-04-23 00:12

At 8:02 am on April 20th, Lushan Distrcit witnessed a disastrous earthquake, reaching the Richter Scale of 7.0, in Yaan City of Sichuan Province. It shook not only the local people there, but also the whole nation as well. As qualified college students, we are responsible to know the situation at the very first time and spare no effort to help them. Accordingly,  a group of students accumulated all the possible information concerning the earthquake and held a discussion.

In the beginning, a succinct video clip initiated us into some basic situations, like the statistical number of people got hurt in this earthquake. Students were impressed by our government’s surprisingly-fast respond, especially the Prime Minister Keqiang Li’s arriving at the earthquake region at the first time and organizing the rescue operation. When it came to the scene that many non-government organizations gave their support and devoted large quantities of money and goods to the earthquake-stricken region, everyone presented felt the love in our society.

After watching the video, students expressed their own opinions. Shasha Wang and Tieji Huang talked about the mass media’s influence after the earthquake. They demonstrated that all the journalists should write their reports based on real facts instead of the exaggerated ones. At the same time they should direct our attention to the right place to lead people actively devote their efforts to reconstruction.

Fengyang Zhao acknowledged the irreplaceable contribution of non-government organizations. Those organizations boosted the improvement or even revolution of some famous public organizations like The Red Cross, which may possibly turn around the prevailing trust crisis. Haiyan Sun and Ping Zhang also deemed that we should look at those questions in a progressive perspective and update our opinions about those refreshed organizations to better help the disaster-stricken victims to tide over the catastrophe. Also rescue plan should be carefully planned, since disordered help would only worsen the situation.

For the infrastructure of the local site, Tieji Huang illustrated the standpoint that our government should learn the lessons from this time’s and Wenchuan’s earthquake. For those earthquake-frequently-happened regions, there must be sufficient measures and regulations to guarantee qualified housing, so that we could avoid all possible loopholes and then reduce potential tragedy.

Tao Liu said that we should establish a sound set of emergency plan and form regulations, to better react to unexpected incidents and provide convenience for most people, which may conclude free communications and free post services. At the same time, the general public should be aware of accidents in their daily lives, storing some daily supplies. And Xiaozhen Hu agreed with him on this point, she expressed that while concerning about possible danger, people should also be trained to learn effective surviving skills and self-rescue knowledge, and publicize those knowledge to the neighborhood, in case of unnecessary hurt caused by unreasonable self-rescue.

Apart from that, everyone knows that earthquake is a worldwide puzzle. Besides scientists’ endless strive, our society should give enough tolerance about the accuracy of the prediction, which helps to establish the forecast mechanism and publicize of the information. For all the fighters and medical professions who work right up at the front, we thank you very much!

Only 24 hours are left in the golden 72 rescue hours, and we sincerely hope that more people can be rescued. For the reconstruction work in the future, we should pay close attention to that and devote everything we’ve got, physically and psychologically, to help them.

May our passed compatriots rest in peace, and the living cherish all your lives.
