Recently, the second academic seminar on polymer of four universities(Peking University, Fudan University, Suzhou University, Zhejiang University) was held in Room 228 of Polymer Building, hosted by the department of polymer science and engineering of Zhejiang University. Not only the leaders from the National Natural Science Foundation and four universities, but also representatives of outstanding teachers from four universities were present at the seminar.
Firstly, professor Qiang Zheng, deputy secretary of the Party of Zhejiang University, delivered an opening, expressing warm welcome and gracious greetings to all participants and his wish of enhancing four universities' understanding and promoting polymer discipline's progress and development through this seminar. Then, Professor Xiulin Zhu, alumi of Zhejiang University as well as president of Suzhou University, said that Suzhou University had been learning from other universities in the development of polymer discipline and hardware and software construction in recent years. Prof. Zhu thought it great honor to attend this academic seminar and looked forward to the completion of Polymer Building, Suzhou University. Prof. Jianhua Dong, Director of Chemistry Department, National Natural Science Foundation, pointed that there were some negative phenomena in academic environment at present. Scholars must always keep themselves far from bad academic behaviors, focus on scientific research and pursue positive thoughts and ideas. And He suggested young scholars be the real scholars and a good example to the next generation of researchers, contributing to the improvement of national scientific research ability. Academician Jiacong Shen put forward the "great, fast, active" concept of development for polymer discipline, that was, to broaden horizons and set lofty goals, to improve efficiency and make more contributions to catch up with international advanced level and to step up instead of wandering in situ.
In the two-day academic seminar, more than twenty teachers from four universities gave speeches about their own academic research separately, covering the latest research results of polymer chemistry, polymer physics and polymer materials. In addition, experts and scholars several times had the in-depth discussion and communication, making further understanding of academic topics covered in the speeches.
 
This session academic seminar of four universities had achieved great success, providing a high-starting-point, large-scale, multi-field platform for academic discussion and exchange and benefiting both teachers and students greatly.
