Dr. Thieo E. Hogen-Esch did pioneering work on the structure of ion pairs involved in anionic living polymerizations in the 1960s. He and his group have investigated its mechanism and synthetic applications ever since. More broadly his research is focused on the synthesis and stereochemistry of well defined vinyl and block copolymers using anionic, radical and related stereochemistry of well defined vinyl and block copolymers using anionic, radical and related polymerization methods. Specific examples include macrocyclic containing rings having pendent chromophores, self-assembly of polymer blends mediated by fluorophilic interactions, and polymers with applications in methanol fuel cells. |
