The 5th China-Europe Symposium on Biomaterials in Regenerative Medicine (CESB 2015) has been held successfully in Hangzhou from 7 April to 10 April in 2015. CESB 2015 was initiated by Chinese Society of Biomaterials and European Society Biomaterials .The first four meetings were held respectively in Suzhou (China), Barcelona (Spain), Nanjing (China) and Sorrento (Italy). The 5th meeting was sponsored by Chinese Society of Biomaterials and European Society of Biomaterials; organized by Biomedical macromolecules Research Institute of Zhejiang University and Guangzhou MaiPu Regenerative Medicine Technology Ltd. This meeting was chaired by In the meeting, the meeting chairmen are taken charge of by prof. Zhang Xingdong, prof. Shen Jiacong, Prof. Matteo Santin and Prof. Luigi Ambrosio, the Chairman Academic Committee by Prof. Xi Tingfei and Prof. Abhay Pandit, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee by Prof. Gao Changyou and Prof. Hu Qiaoling. More than 300 experts and scholars attended the meeting, among whom 30 representatives came from Sweden, Greece, the United Kingdom, the United States, Switzerland, Singapore, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Japan, France, Ireland, Russia, Hong Kong and other countries. There were also eight biomaterials-related exhibitors. This conference consisted of four plenary sessions, 31 thematic reports, 21 invited lectures, 81 oral presentations, and 69 posters. The meeting intended to publish a special issue on Regenerative Biomaterials.
The meeting was chaired by Prof. Gao Changyou, one chairman of the Organizing Committee. Prof. Wu Zhaohui, President of Zhejiang University, attended the meeting and made an important speech. He introduced the general situation of Zhejiang University (ZJU) and emphasized that ZJU would continue to encourage and support the S&T development in biological materials. Prof. Zhang Xingdong, Prof. Matteo Santin, Prof. Luigi Ambrosio, Prof. Shen Jiacong made welcome speeches successively. Prof. Xi Tingfei, The president of Asia Biomaterials Society, Ho Tao, Dean of Zhejiang Medical Equipment Inspection Institute, Prof. Xu Zhikang, the head of Department of Polymer Science, Zhejiang University, Lou Rengong, the CPC Party chief of Department of Polymer Science, Zhejiang University, attended the meeting. The general meeting with the theme of regenerative medicine biomaterials aimed to provide a multidisciplinary platform for dialogue among researchers, clinicians and entrepreneurs in the field of biomaterials. Through dialogue among people from different fields, new ideas were inspired and the transformation from scientific achievements to clinical application was promoted. The themes included biological manufacturing, intelligent systems, natural biological materials, bio-polymers, biodegradable materials, biomaterial surface and interface, nano-biomaterials, soft tissue regeneration, bone tissue engineering and so on.
As a grand meeting in the scientific community of China and European, people were engaged in dialogue and exchanges in the foreland of research field, and sought opportunities of mutual cooperation. In this conference, a series of important researches by Chinese scientists in the field of regenerative medicine biological material were also shown. Participants shared the latest research results, while developing new ideas, making new friends, opening new research directions, promoting technical innovation and transformation of the scientific achievements.
