Two Outstanding Students at DPSE were honored with Chu Kochen Scholarship-- ¡ªthe Highest Accolade in Zhejiang University

Time£º2013-10-12 13:01

1. Xiangsheng Liu

Xiangsheng Liu is presently studying for his doctorate under the guidance of Prof. Jian Ji at the institute of biomedical macromolecules. Before winning this scholarship, he has received many other honours at Zhejiang University such as “the Excellent Postgraduate”, “the First-class Honours for Postgraduates”, “Yuandong Scholarship” and “Yang Shilin Scholarship”.

He has made oral presentations for twice at international academic conferences and has been in Tokyo for a two-month research exchange project since 2011.This year he has published 5 papers as the first author with total IF higher than30.086.Besides scientific research, he also took an active part in social work over the last few years. He used to be the chairman of the Postgraduate Students'Union at DPSE during 2009-2010 and a part-time counsellor at DPSE during 2010-2012.

His academic achievements in 2013 were listed below:

2.Sipei Li

Sipei Li is currently a master student in Prof. Chao Gao’s nanopolymer group.

In August 2013, he obtained the Best Young Researcher award (second place),which is sponsored by the 10th International Conference on Advanced Polymers via Macromolecular Engineering (APME 2013) and American Chemical Society (ACS).

In Spetember 2013, he attended the International Conference on Nanoscience & Technology, China NANO 2013 and gave a post presentation.

In May 2013, he attended the academic seminar between Zhejiang University and Imperial London and gave an oral presentation on the topic of graphene aerogel as the only student representative among all other professors from the two institutes.

His academic achievements in 2013 were listed below:

1) Via combination of multi-step click chemistry and self-condensing vinyl polymerization, he realized the whole-scaffold hetero-functionality for segmented hyperbranched polymers (SHP), and explored the relationship between photoluminescent properties and polymer topology, laying the foundation for further study in this area. This work was published on the RSC journal Polymer Chemistry (IF 5.231) and was selected as front cover article. It was also highlighted by the RSC blog. (Polym. Chem. 2013, 4, 1774-1787)

2) Using the same SHP, he prepared highly compact and highly functional 4-D dendritic molecular brushes (DMBs). Via chemical conjugation of different fluorophores onto the DMB backbone, demonstrating the photo-amplifying “cage effect” of DMBs. Based on this novel fluorescent macromolecules, he also developed a type of solid-state blue-light fluorescent ink. This work was also published on Polymer Chemistry. (Polym. Chem. 2013, 4, 4450-4460)

3) He independently finished a review article for the traditional journal Polymer (IF 3.379), giving comprehensive remarks on the frontiers of hyperbranched polymer and click chemistry, which is to be submitted soon.
