Prof. Kalervo Hiltunen received his Ph.D. degrees in Medicine in 1977 from the University of Oulu, Oulu, Finland. His basic researches on biomedicine are performed in a disciplinary-crossing manner and are in a leading position in the world. His important discoveries are presented as follows.
- Multifunctional enzymes (MFEs) of peroxisomal β-oxidation type 2
- Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) enzymes in cells
- Metabolite of peroxisome metabolite traffic across peroxisomal membrane
- A new mitochondrial fatty acid synthesis pathway
